Do you think this will actually change tank priority in 6/12/24-man comps?
If we’re talking strictly about group contribution : setting aside class mechanics : why would you pick a BG over a Chosen or a BO?

I’m struggling to see the advantages of the Black Guard compared to the other tanks ...

It’s strong in situations where you’re taking heavy burst damage.
In other scenarios, not so much.

We’ve just seen a buff to the Black Guard with the change to Elite Training.
