I don't think changing gear is usefull. Informing player could be a thing, but there is a lot of guides already. As scroll are not a thing anymore, maybe find a way to up RR quickly can be a thing. For exemple, better potion if there RR is too much below CR. I think more RR and less XP in SC is a go...
