Return of Reckoning

I've experienced something...odd
I was fighting stuff as normal (playing a high elf, but running around Norsca doing the empire quests).
I hit level 16 while fighting multiple mobs. Immediately died, didn't really see what happened.
Respawned, walked a few feet outside town, got swarmed by junk mobs ...
