Ror daemon moon rising 01

Highlights

Live Event Daemon Moon Decaying

Every year, as the fog covers the land and the autumn nights herald the chill of winter, the Daemon Moon rises. For scholars, the Daemon Moon is a dangerous time of year when the threat of a daemonic incursion is greatest. For the common-folk it is a time of revelry and chaos, all in the spirit of the times. Needless to say, the scholars are right to fear what is to come, for during the time of the Daemon Moon, daemonic forces are unleashed upon the mortal realm to play with the lives of the living as they please. This year scholars have noted a disturbing lilac tinge on the Daemon Moon, an ill omen of Slaanesh's power. Slaanesh has danced his way forefront of the Chaos forces, eluding the sloth with which is brothers proceed. This year, the Daemon Moon Rises, as with all things when corruption brushes against the veil.

This is a time of year when the veil between the Realm of Chaos and the world is dangerously thin, though foolish naïve folk do not always heed the warnings of their leaders, be they pious priests, zealous witch hunters, or wizard lords. Instead the common folk use this opportunity to play pranks on each other, blaming mischievous daemons of course. They hide behind their masks teasing friend and foe alike, not knowing that lesser daemons corrupt the mind behind the mask. Humans across the Old World, from the bustling streets of Altdorf in the Empire, to the twisted alleys of the Inevitable City in the Chaos Wastes, toy with powers they do not understand. If Slaanesh is to be held at bay, you and your allies must work together to withstand the Daemon Moon Rising.

The Daemon Moon Rising will start on October 30th and last until November 9th.

Rewards

The Daemon Moon Rising is a new take on an existing live event for Return of Reckoning. Our artists have made new assets such as masks, cloaks, magus discs - all in the Slaanesh theme. Our thanks to our artistic contributors for their continued dedication to RoR.

Basic reward: Crate of Slaanesh Dyes, or Potion of Acclaim

Advanced reward: the Fiendfang item from live which buffs renown and experience; or the Mantle of Ecstasy, Shawl of Rapture - two new capes. Preview here

Elite reward: Manticore Binding Collar - an item to trade in for a mount (decay timers based on renown bracket). Mounts can be Previewed here, and magus discs Preview here.

Daemon Moon Masks: There are a total of thirteen Daemon Moon masks, they can be acquired through a variety of ways (3 via quest, 2 via PQ, 4 via random 'box' roll, and 4 from player drops) Preview here Masks decay into permanent versions without their buffs.

R'nyth the Sweet Whisperer ORvR PQ

The Dark Prince's very own favored one, R'nyth the Sweet Whisperer, has emerged from the Chaos Realm this Daemon Moon. Join your realm in battling the R'nyth the Sweet Whisperer in the Chaos Wastes, while you hold back the opposing realm. This PQ will include a handful of rewards exclusive to the PQ, such as the new Dancer's Mask of Joy and Dancer's Mask of Sorrow masks.

Pan de Monium

What are Daemon Moon celebrations without a bit of Pan de Monium? This Estalian bread is specially baked during the Daemon Moon, with bakers leaving small gifts, or tricks, for their unwitting customers. Pan de Monium can be acquired either by completing the Imp Games quest, or purchasing it from the Suspicious Masked Peddler. Pan de Monium contains over two dozen possible rewards, ranging from potions and talismans, to dyes and masks, or perhaps even a precious aegis for the lucky few. What does Pan de Monium have in store for you?

Dyes

Seven new dyes per major Chaos god, for a total of twenty eight new dyes, are available for regular purchase during the Daemon Moon Rising. As the Daemon Moon Rising is Slaanesh-themed, Slaanesh themed dyes sell for gold, while dyes associated with other gods require a small additional sacrifice. Additionally, players who participate in the ORvR public quest and acquire Bittersweet Essence can turn it in at the dye vendor for three new, and unique to this live event, specular dyes. These dyes are available only during this live event, for those who wish to expand their colorful horizons.

Dye previews are available here, but please be aware that the colors may apply differently on different base armor colors. We recommend to use an addon such as Pocket Palette to see how this dye will look on your armor.

Live Event Shoppe

A Suspicious Masked Peddler has set up shop in the Altdorf Slums, and secluded room near the Apex of the Inevitable City. This vendor will gladly accept your gold and daemon fingers while the Daemon Moon is up, but please be aware that once the Daemon Moon falls, he too will fade from your life. Here players can buy new unique dyes, or a bit of Pan de Monium.

Lost Connection? Your Character Holds the Line

We've all been there: the internet hiccups mid-fight, and after you log back in you find yourself in the warcamp miles away from the fight. Not any more!

When your connection drops while you're in the world, your character now stays in the game for 60 seconds. Log back in to the same character within that time and you'll pick up exactly where you left off: same spot, same health, buffs still running, still in your group, your scenario or your dungeon instance.

  • While disconnected, your character stays visible and can still be attacked and killed. If you were killed, you'll come back dead where you fell and can release as usual.
  • If you're still in RvR combat when the 60 seconds run out, the existing penalty for disconnecting from combat still applies. Pulling the plug is not a way out of a fight!
  • Logging out normally works as before, with no 60-second wait.
  • Logging in a different character on the same account ends the wait straight away.

This is brand new, so please report anything odd, with the time and both characters' names if someone else was involved.

A Rebuilt Chat System

Chat has been rebuilt from the ground up on the server. Most of it should feel familiar, but there's a lot that's new:

  • Custom chat channels: create or join your own channel with /channeljoin followed by a name. Channels belong to your realm, and you stay a member across relogs. Use /channelleave (with the name or slot number), /channellist to see your channels, and /channelwho to see who's in one.
  • Your channel choices are remembered: leaving Region or Advice is remembered across relogs, and you can rejoin any time. The Region-RvR channel is available inside RvR lakes.
  • Better ignore: /ignore now tells you exactly what it blocks, and you can remove players with /ignoreremove.
  • No more flood kicks: typing too fast no longer disconnects you. Instead you'll see "Slow down! Think before you say each word!" and the extra lines aren't sent.

Keeping chat clean

  • A line containing a banned word is no longer sent ("Your message was not sent: it contains a word that is not allowed.") and you are no longer muted for it. The filter is also much better at catching disguised spellings, and much less likely to catch everyday words.
  • Players who keep flooding chat are muted automatically for 10 minutes.
  • While muted, you can still talk to your party and guild, send tells and mail to your friends, and reply to people who whispered you.
  • Starting tell conversations with lots of different players in a short time is now limited, and more tightly for low-level characters. Friends, guildmates and replies are not affected.

Public chat logging

Public channels are now logged for 14 days for moderation. Private messages are not stored unless they're reported. You'll see a short reminder about this in chat each time you log in.

This is a big change under the hood, so please let us know if a channel, tell or message isn't going where it should.

Smarter NPCs

NPC and pet movement has been rebuilt on a brand new navigation system that covers each region as a whole, instead of zone by zone, and the way NPCs chase, fight and walk home has been reworked to match how they behaved on the original live servers.

Getting around

  • NPCs chasing you now follow the ground you could walk: round buildings, through doorways, over bridges, up slopes and stairs, and across zone borders, instead of cutting through walls or stopping dead.
  • NPCs stay on their own floor in keeps and multi-level buildings.
  • Large creatures now take routes wide enough for their size instead of squeezing through gaps.
  • Land creatures stop at the edge of deep water instead of walking along the lake bed.
  • Closed keep and dungeon doors now block NPC paths properly, and destroyed doors let them through.

In a fight

  • Melee NPCs now stop a short distance in front of you, as they did on live.
  • When several NPCs fight the same target, they now spread out round it instead of stacking on one spot, and step back out of each other when they get crowded.
  • An NPC that can only get part of the way to you waits at the closest point it can reach. One that has no way to reach you at all now gives up after 5 seconds and goes home, instead of walking straight through walls or floating towards you. Dungeon NPCs keep fighting, so encounters don't reset on you.
  • A fight where nobody has dealt or taken any damage for 30 seconds now ends. This doesn't apply in dungeons.
  • Fixed NPCs no longer turning to face their target after they had been stunned.

Crowds

  • NPCs now steer round each other and round players while they move, so a pack runs in together instead of walking through one another. Big creatures keep more room around them than small ones.
  • Once an NPC is close to its target, it stops steering and walks straight in, so steering barely slows a chase.

Pets

  • Pets use the new navigation too. Your pet follows you, and chases its target, round buildings, through doorways, up stairs and across zone borders, instead of cutting through walls or getting stuck.
  • Pets spread out round their target along with NPCs, instead of stacking on one spot.

Walking home

  • An NPC walking home after a fight can no longer be attacked or affected by abilities until it gets there, and hitting it no longer adds to its hatred.
  • An NPC walking home now finishes the walk instead of stopping short when a stun or root held it up.
  • Keep and fortress NPCs no longer abandon their patrol or their walk home to head straight back to their post.

Patrols and wanderers

  • Patrolling and wandering NPCs now stop while you talk to them, and walk on once you leave or after 3 minutes.
  • Wandering creatures now walk at a proper walking pace instead of a slow jog.
  • Patrols no longer get stuck on a waypoint they can't quite reach.
  • An NPC that is stopped or sent somewhere new no longer sets off along its old route.

Line of sight has also moved to a new system. It should behave as before, with two welcome fixes:

  • Walls and terrain on a zone border now block line of sight. Before, anything on the other side of a zone border was always in sight.
  • Opening a door in one copy of a dungeon no longer counts it as open in every other copy of that dungeon.

If you find a spot where an NPC or line of sight acts strangely, please send us your /loc.

Absent Guild Leaders

Guild leaders who stop playing are still replaced after 60 days, but they now get plenty of warning, and the guild goes to someone who actually still plays.

  • The leader counts as active whenever any of their characters in the guild logs in.
  • After 14 days away, the leader gets an e-mail at the address on their account. Another follows every week, then one a day for the last three days.
  • At 60 days, the guild passes to the highest-ranked member who has played in the last 14 days, with the most recent login breaking a tie. If nobody has played in that time, the highest-ranked member seen in the last 60 days takes over. The old leader stays in the guild as an officer.
  • A guild is only handed over once its leader has had at least a week's notice, and the leader's own alts are never picked.
  • Guilds where nobody else has played for 60 days are left alone, and starter guilds are not affected.

Guild leaders: please make sure the e-mail address on your account is one you actually read!

Realm Versus Realm

General

  • Damage you deal to enemy players through auras, procs or your pet now flags you for RvR, just like a direct attack.

Open World Campaign

  • Campaign points now update for everyone the moment they change, with no relog needed.
  • Fixed an RvR event cancelled by a zone lock still spawning, or blocking the next event from starting.

Keeps

  • Keep doors can no longer be used while the keep is locked.
  • Hitting a keep or fortress door no longer builds morale.
  • Fixed keep and fortress doors sending you about 36 degrees off course when you went through them from one side.

Scenarios

  • You can no longer join a scenario while you're in combat. Once combat ends, the invite can be accepted as normal.
  • Fixed the scenario queue window showing as disabled or empty for characters whose renown was inside a bracket but below its maximum.
  • The surrender option is now available after 50% of the scenario has elapsed. The threshold is based on the scenario’s length, so it stays at 50% if that length changes.
  • Barriers have been removed from most scenarios, with guards restored or repositioned where needed. Barriers remain in Garden of Morr, Sacellum Arena and Blood of the Black Cairn.
  • Scenario guards are immovable and will not chase players. Melee guards use Throw Axe at around 25 feet, while ranged guards attack from around 50 feet. Guard behavior, ranges and positions are all subject to change as we see how they work in each scenario.

General Changes and Fixes

  • Casts are now interrupted when the target of the cast goes out of line of sight, even if you have selected someone else since. Previously the check used your current target.
  • Line-shaped area abilities no longer waste their targets on things that can't be targeted, such as bosses in an untargetable phase.
  • Some abilities played the wrong animation or effect when you used them, such as the Magus disc playing the basic mount's animation and pies not playing their eating animation. These now play their own.
  • Ground-targeted area abilities now show their ground effect at the right size, matching the area they hit.
  • Fixed issues when a duel ended on a killing blow while damage or heals over time were still ticking.
  • Taking damage in a duel exactly equal to your remaining health now makes you surrender instead of killing you.
  • Fixed players standing on an objective held by their realm being treated as pets by some abilities.

Engineer

Bug Fixes

  • Turrets now shoot an enemy standing next to them instead of hitting it in melee, so their attacks can no longer be parried. 24616

Squig Herder

Bug Fixes

  • Pets now keep up with you while you ride Fasta, Quicka or Lazy Squiggy, instead of falling behind and despawning. 23958 24198 25390

Bright Wizard

Bug Fixes

  • Wall of Fire now runs in the direction you're facing, instead of always the same direction. 25785

Magus

Bug Fixes

  • Pink Horrors and Blue Horrors now shoot an enemy standing next to them instead of hitting it in melee, so their attacks can no longer be parried. 25613

White Lion

Bug Fixes

  • Re-casting the stance you're already in no longer makes your lion lose one of its abilities. 22175 23187

General

Team Updates

We’ve restructured our groups to better support development and community engagement.

We’ll share more about each group’s priorities, roadmaps, and goals within the coming weeks.

Focus Group Recruitment

We’ll be recruiting community members for focus groups to help inform future development. A dedicated post will follow with details on how to get involved.

World

  • Fixed NPCs sometimes disappearing when they switched targets at the edge of their leash.
  • A corpse you could loot is still lootable when you come back to it after releasing or relogging.

Dungeons

  • Fixed an issue with the adds in the Katenya Hearthblaze and Guktar Waaaghfist fights when a player died near them.
  • Lost Vale: A rock has been added after Zaar in the middle wing on the ramp leading to Horgulul where players would get stuck on an invisible collider.
  • The Fox-Cap hats have been added to the Silver Falls Pass / Blood River Canyon dungeons, which players can acquire after obtaining every achievement in the dungeon.

Quests

  • All Tier 1 Consignment Quests (Hunter of the...) have had their player kill count lowered from 15 to 10 enemy players
  • All Tier 2 and 3 Consignment Quests have had their player kill count lowered from 10 to 2 enemy players.
  • The quests in Blood River Canyon and Silver Falls Pass have had their minimum level lowered from 25 to 20. This should allow players to earn this gear earlier and make greater use of it.
  • Clicking some quest objects no longer counts twice towards quests, public quests and live event tasks.
  • When you hand a quest in from an item that also starts the next quest, the next quest can be accepted again.

Guilds

  • Players around you now see your new guild name straight away when you join, leave or are kicked from a guild, or when it's renamed or disbanded.
  • Officer notes are now only shown to ranks that are allowed to read them.
  • Ranks can now only be changed by a higher rank, and nobody can grant a permission they don't have themselves. Guild leaders can now reset rank permissions to the defaults.

Guild Calendar

  • Deleting a guild event no longer deletes every event, and editing or signing up for an event now affects the right one.
  • A guild that has left an alliance no longer sees the alliance events of other guilds, including the enemy realm's.
  • Creating a guild event now needs the rank permission to edit your events, as editing does. By default that's officers and the leader.

Alliances

  • An alliance name that only differs from an existing one in capitals or accents is now refused. This fixes alliances quietly dissolving after a server restart.

Character Creation

  • The random name button now creates names that fit your race and gender, so no more Dwarfs with Dark Elf names!
  • Character names are now checked regardless of capitals, so a name that only differs from an existing one in capital letters is taken.

Killboard and Armory

  • The solo and group ranked leaderboards now each number their players from 1.

Server Performance and Stability

  • The server runs more smoothly, especially in busy zones.
  • Your progress is now properly saved when the server restarts for maintenance.
  • More stable connections, with fewer disconnects and quicker recovery when your connection briefly drops.

Account Security

  • Repeated failed login attempts are now temporarily blocked.

Items

Tier 4 (Annihilator, Mercenary, Ruin) gear is no longer salvageable. As a fix to the itemization, the gear was made 'very rare' to match how armor sets are valued. However, this resulted in players being able to easily obtain 200 fragments from salvaging.

Talismans

  • A timed talisman that expires on an item in your backpack no longer reduces your stats.
  • A timed talisman that expires on an equipped item now removes its bonus straight away, without a relog.
  • Fusing a timed talisman now keeps the time it had left instead of resetting it.

Vendors and Rewards

  • Fixed several item and vendor exploits.
  • Buying from a vendor too quickly now tells you how to buy several at once: "Tip: Shift + Right Click to buy multiple items at once."
  • Renown-limited rewards in boxes now check your renown rank.
  • Gaining several renown ranks at once now sends the reward mail for every rank you passed, each with that rank's own reward.
  • Reward mails now come from a sender that fits your race.

Crafting

  • A "Critical Failure" when brewing an apothecary recipe now plays an explosion on your character.

Mounts

  • Fixed Human and High Elf characters on the Imperial Pack Mule, and Chaos characters on the Enslaved Pack Mule, stuttering while riding and missing their turning, idle, jump and fall animations.

Art

Icons for the Disciple of Khaine's abilities "Khaine's Encouragement" and "Khaine's Force" have been updated.

User Interface

Chat

  • Fixed "You cannot do that while dead!" not being shown when speaking while dead.
  • Fixed leaving the Advice channel sending a stray line to the realm.
  • Guild and alliance chat now say why a message couldn't be sent instead of failing silently.

Party Frames

  • Party frames now show a member's new level and bolster straight away, instead of only after someone joins or leaves.

  • .surrender now tells you how many seconds are left until a vote can be started. 25338

  • Capturing a fortress now counts once towards capture-fortress quests, instead of once for each group member nearby, such as The Gauntlet. 22414
